Newsletter July 2021

HCA members

Welcome to the Hackett Community Association’s (HCA) July 2021 newsletter. Feel free to forward this email onto Hackett residents and people who would like to know more about our great suburb.

Improvements to carpark, Kellaway St

Further to the new concrete edging in the carpark on Kellaway Street, the ACT Government has placed some large rocks at either end.

Hackett shops

Library – Thank you to the residents who look after the library at the shops.  It is located on the Madigan St side of Tarquine Hair Salon.  Please donate books but no magazines.

Gardens – the tulips that the HCA planted last year are slowing reappearing so we will hopefully see many of them in bloom in the coming months.

Alicia Payne, Federal Member for Canberra

It was great to have Alicia brave the cold air and visit the shops in the morning of Saturday 10 July.  A number of the Committee got to speak with her about issues, including removing Monash Drive from the National Capital Plan.

Capital Scraps Composting

The Mills St. Composter in Hackett is part of the Capital Scraps network of community composters. Over 50 households in Watson are contributing to this climate saving effort. Only 35 households in Hackett are on board. Capital Scraps is always looking for more households to feed the network. Tell your friends in other suburbs too! Go to www.compost.org.au for more information.

Party at the shops – rescheduled for March 2022

Over the years, the HCA has organized a party at the shops, usually in October. Last year we didn’t have one due to Covid.  The Committee has decided that with the continuing uncertainty with Covid, we will not hold one this year. Instead we propose to hold a party to coincide with Neighbour Day in March 2022.  The details will be developed over the coming months and could include activities at the shops, as well as other sites in Hackett, such as our fabulous parks and the oval. If you have some suggestions on suitable activities please send us an email info@hackett.asn.au.

Equipment for use by community groups

The HCA has the following items for its use and for lending to Hackett community groups and residents:

  • Gazebo 3mx3m
  • Two power leads each 20m long
  • Wheelable esky
  • Electric 8 litre urn
  • 70 metres of garden hoses
  • Collapsible table
  • A-frame poster board and a blackboard

If you would like to borrow any of these, please send an email to info@hackett.asn.au.
