Clean Up Australia Sunday 6 March
The Hackett Community Association is running its annual table at the Hackett shops between the hours of 10am and 1pm. You will need to register on the day and if possible bring your own gloves. Bags will be provided. Volunteers usually give an hour of their time which is greatly appreciated. It is surprising how much rubbish accumulates over the year, especially in parklands and the nature strips on Antill Street and Phillip Avenue and near the SES depot. Any queries, contact Terry de Luca, the site supervisor, via info@hackett.asn.au
Meet the HCA Sunday 6 March
When you register for Clean Up Australia, take the opportunity to meet the HCA Committee and find out what we have done in Hackett in recent years. We would also like to hear what you would like done to improve our great suburb. If you know people who are not members please encourage them to come along and join – its free. New members will go into the hat to win a special prize.
If you are unable to attend we will have another get together on Sunday 27 March 10am-1.00pm – Neighbour Day across Australia.
ACT Heritage Festival
The ACT Heritage Festival will be held from 9 April to 1 May 2022. The HCA has registered to conduct two events about two important sites in Hackett:
- the oval trees (planted in the 1930s as a screen between a proposed cemetery and a future suburb) and
- the Grayson St complex which was designed in the 1960s by well-known architect, Dirk Bolt. They were described as a “Radical homes project for Canberra” at the time.
We will provide further details when our proposals are accepted.
Tryon Street Playground upgrade
A shade sail has been installed over part of the Tryon Street playground and looks great. This was done under the ACT Government Playspace Upgrades program. There are other poles which may also have a shade sail added.
Table at the shops
The HCA also welcomes the concreting under the table on the lawns at the shops – a perfect location to sit and rest and enjoy some delicious take away from Siam Twist or 3rd Space.
Walk Canberra
Here is a great website about walks through Canberra’s suburbs https://walkcanberra.com/ including one through Hackett – https://walkcanberra.com/hackett/. The photo on the home page was taken in Hackett – can you guess where?
Equipment for use by community groups
The HCA has the following items for its use and for lending to other Hackett community groups. If you would like to borrow any of these, please send an email to info@hackett.asn.au.
