What a party we had
The North Ainslie Primary School band got the party going at 11am on Saturday 27 October and the entertainment was non-stop for the next four hours. Poetry in Motion followed, then the John Agnew Big Band, CJ Snow (Tunes in Bloom), and then Campbell High School band finished at the end. Thank you to John Murray who provided the sound system. In between the music, we watched Folk Dance Canberra and the Merici College Dance Troupe perform great dancing.
When we got hungry we could choose delicious food from Siam Twist, Hackett Preschool cakes and refreshing lemonade, Magic Kitchen’s delights, finished off with a sausage from the HCA BBQ, and a wine sample from Enotria Wines.
The children bounced-off some of their energy on the Gecko Gang Jumping Castle, before they joined the queue to get their faces painted in fabulous designs by Hackett Preschool (I am sure many of the children did not wash their face for a week!). While queuing, they could listen to original children’s songs by Keith Reece, or do colouring and craft activities at Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith’s marquee.
Information tables added to the occasion, with the presence of the SES, Community Fire Unit, a fire engine, Friends of Mt Majura, ACT Greens, Majura Pine Alliance, a composting display, and Neighbourhood Watch. We could also select from a wide range of pre-loved books, clothes and jewellery.
Thank you to Samaritan House who had an open day, and to the people and businesses who donated the wonderful gifts and vouchers for the HCA raffle.
Thank you to Andrew Leigh for launching the book about Hackett and cutting the cake.
Finally, thank you for attending and given such a great atmosphere to the shops. It is very difficult to give a firm figure on the numbers but probably over 1500 across the day. Your presence really bought the shops alive.
